CCYL Registration Information for Girls Lacrosse Spring 2014

The CCYL Girls Program offers lacrosse to girls in grades 1 through 8, in an instructional, non-competitive league which focuses on player development.  The players are separated into four different age groups - Grades 1/2 (Little Laxers), Grades 3/4, Grades 5/6 and Grades 7/8.  CCYL creates EQUAL and BALANCED teams in each age group - mixing ages and abilities.  No experience is necessary.  New lacrosse players are always welcome.

The Spring 2014 season starts in early April and runs through mid June, ending with an enormously fun Jamboree.  Practices are held two times per week with one game per week.  Practices generally speaking are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 7:00 pm for 3/4 grade, and from 5:30 - 7:00 pm for 5/6 grade and 7/8 grade.  Games are held on Sunday afternoons between 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm.  There will be some pre-season indoor sessions held in March/April for each of the age groups.

LITTLE LAXERS FOR 1/2 GRADE  held Sunday's 11:30-12:30 at the CCHS end zone

This clinic will introduce 1st & 2nd grade girls to many of the basic skills required to play girls lacrosse.  Through games and simple drills, we will teach proper cradling techniques, ground ball recovery, tracking/catching, field orientation, and simple defensive strategies (1v1 defense).  The girls will be developing agility and coordination through crazy relays, chasing games and obstacle courses. We will focus on critical "non passing" skills, as our goal is to create an exciting and fun atmosphere for these young athletes to make new friends and try lacrosse.  Because this is purely a skills foundations clinic, we will not be scrimmaging or competing at this grade level. This 1 hour clinic can accommodate 40 girls. Girls will be divided in small groups (generally by grade level) and will work through 3-4 skills stations at each clinic. A wait list will be formed once the maximum number is reached, and girls will be taken off the list in the order of their registration. Payment & USLacrosse fees are not required for the wait list. There are no uniforms for this age group.  Little Laxers will receive a complimentary T-shirt.

This select opportunity will be offered for girls in the 7th and 8th grades.   The Pioneer Team is in its 5th year and will play an impressive roster of teams including L/S, A/B, Weston, Needham and Dover-Sherborn.  These games will be played at a high level.  The Pioneer Program entails one additional practice per week on Tues. from 7:30-8:15 PM, and one additional game per week, typically Friday night. We may have additional skill sessions on Sunday night, but that is not yet determined.Pioneer is a part of the town program and Pioneer players are expected to be fully committed members of their FGLL/CC Team.
Tryouts are scheduled  Sunday, November 17th, 12:00-2:00 @ CCHS Turf 2 (Outside – dress warm) Tuesday, November 19th, 7:00-9:00 @ Bedford Edge (Indoors). All registered players from the CCYL girls 7/8 program are eligible to tryout for this team. While you are not required to attend both sessions, it is strongly recommended. 2013 Pioneer Team veterans are required to attend, as no spots are held from year to year. Evaluations are conducted by impartial evaluators, not the CCLax/Pioneer coaches.

Full equipment is required in order to participate in each session.  For girls, necessary equipment includes: regulation girls crosse/lacrosse stick, mouth guard, protective eyewear/goggles.  For games, each player should wear the CCYL uniform (available for purchase in the registration process) and black spandex shorts available at Brines.  Gloves are optional (gloves are more commonly used in grade 7/8 program and for especially cold days; boys lacrosse gloves are not acceptable).  All players grade 3-8 must have a uniform. Returning players can wear last year's if it is gently used and still fits! The jerseys are slim cut. Please consider selecting a size up.

CCYL depends upon dedicated volunteers to be successful.  We need volunteer coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, team statisticians and others to help us manage our growing program.  You need not have lacrosse experience to volunteer.  Please let us know if you are able to assist - you will be given this option in the registration process.  Otherwise, please feel free to contact the CCYL Girls Director Amy Field at  to volunteer.
